[May. 26th, 2008|10:03 pm] |
because i still have two pieces of fic to write for that alphabet fic meme which i'd planned to complete by, oh, the end of last year. -_-;; when i eventually get around to writing those two, they may be the last pieces of fic i shall ever write! /o/ \o\ /o/ barring fic gifts and obligations and things like yuletide.
stolen from feliciter: 1. Pick character(s), pairing(s), and/or a fandom. 2. Turn on your music player and put it on shuffle. 3. For each song that plays, write something related to the theme you picked, inspired by the song. You have only the time frame of the song. No skipping songs: you have to take what comes by chance (exceptions made for instrumentals, unless the title takes your fancy.) 4. Do 5 of these, then post.
also with selected mp3 uploads! get the songs, they're better than the fic.
( maloki, That Pairing, 10x more recycled than before )
the extent to which this swiftly degenerated into cliché is embarrassing. when pressed for time, recycle sentiments! i shall probably scrap that entire last bit, for instance. also i feel like i am pretty much ripping off that one xsmoonshine fic which ate my fannish loki/utgard-loki soul and never gave it back, for which i apologise.
---
( mushishi, with 500% more exposition )
this meme is so embarrassing, somehow! posting unpolished work always is.
*yeah, this is totally a reference to political theory in general and that one isaiah berlin piece in particular. sorry. |

it is all i can do to come up with my own topics for philosophy essays, or filk famous poems (edgar allen poe, reasonable; eliot, strangely difficult) for Assassins reports; i'm hardly in a position to come up with original content for this lj. so instead:
Comment with a situation, place, fandom, or character, and I'll upload a song which I think appropriate. |

Oysterband - We Could Leave Right Now a rather straightforward folk rock song, i suppose, but there's something compelling about it. the insistent, almost grim hum of the strings, perhaps. we can forget our names/forget each other's faces/don't be afraid/don't be afraid
Oysterband - Bells of Rhymney a cover of a folk rock song which originated from a ballad about the hardship of miners. ...it's a good song, okay. :\\\ the little guitar melody is strangely catchy.
Oysterband - Granite Years and if you didn't download this the last time around, here's your chance. this is the song which got me interested in the band -- youth and not-sepia nostalgia. |

[initial post]
this post's title notwithstanding, feel free to suggest more topics. i'm not likely to post any proper unprompted content in the near future, after all.
from feliciter: ( what would make me stop listening to Kent )
and on that note, here's my favourite song from their latest album:
Kent - Våga vara rädd upbeat, catchy, and just generally fun. <3 it even has happy trumpets! |

[Dec. 24th, 2007|04:52 pm] |
holiday greetings have been appearing on my f-list, so -- merry christmas to all, and all the best for the new year! here, have a completely unrelated Kent song, while i'm at it:
Kent - Tick tack off their new single, Columbus. catchy, though the lyrics are not particularly cheerful. :D;; |

| Kent concert, 7 Dec 2007 | Olympen, Lund |
[Dec. 23rd, 2007|02:47 pm] |
first, let me apologise for the lack of photos. my digital camera died and could not be revived on my second day in Copenhagen, so i had to fall back on my obsolete non-digital one. my cousin, who came along for the concert, did take a few photos, but i haven't got them from her yet. ^_^;;
still, some kind YouTube user has uploaded videos from the concert, so I've linked those. *_* there are probably more videos up on YouTube by now, too. i just wish there were an audio bootleg, because the videos simply don't capture the sound.
( do not expect much coherence, let alone intelligence. much of this is fangirling. )
here are the setlists from this tour. looks like i was pretty lucky, getting to hear 10 minuter and Innan allting tar slut. :D :D :D
( and the Kent-related purchases i made. ) |

kent's new album will be released three weeks from now! seems like it's going to be a rather dancy album, so here are some kent songs that aren't:
eight-song Kent sampler
contains: December Du Var Min Armé Elever Järnspöken Nihilisten Pärlor <-- okay, so this one's rather dancy Spökstad Sverige
won't be replying to comments until next week, just fyi. |

am on a weiss nostalgia kick, and have been listening to weiss songs. thus: music uploads!
No Reason i love weiss's various opening songs. this one is fun ( by which i mean easy ) to sing, i think, and i like the shuffly sort of beat. does this count as electronica? my lack of music knowledge is showing.
Perfect Stranger (Koyasu and Miki) this is one weiss song i usually inflict upon unsuspecting people, because it's not obviously an anime song. i adore the guitar solo.
Sora ni Naretara a perfect road-trip song. optimistic and lazily upbeat, if that isn't a contradiction in terms.
Jeepstar one of those infectiously happy songs. <33333 it has shiny background noises and all!
Beautiful Alone the first and perhaps best ending song. gentle and strangely optimistic in sound, despite the lyrics. natsukashii~ |

first, a repost, since these files didn't work the last time:
Morrissey - Hairdresser on Fire oddly catchy tune, with morrissey's usual wry lyrics. you are repressed/but you're remarkably dressed!
Depeche Mode - Dreaming of Me one of their more light-hearted songs, even somewhat sweet(!?) by their standards.
---
and then, a music meme: Comment and - if you want - I'll give you a letter. In your journal, list 10 of your favorite songs that begin with that letter. acanti gave me the letter A~
( with selected mp3 uploads; feel free to request the others )
some of my favourite artistes are left out, because the songs of theirs which start with A aren't the ones i really like, but that's what makes this meme a challenge! |

[Aug. 10th, 2007|01:15 am] |
leaving on a short trip to australia, back on the 18th. for now, a post for all those who chose the "who?" option on the earlier poll. f-locked to save bandwidth, please don't spread the links around? not that you would, i suppose. ^_^;; [unlocked, songs removed 26/8]
anyway. somewhat predictable choices; you may have caught these songs on the oldies radio station* before. not all of these songs date from the 80s, mind, and few of them are they the depressing sort. because these bands aren't all about teh_angst.
The Cure - Boys Don't Cry far-too-catchy pop, with a guitar line that will get stuck in your head.
The Cure - Plainsong i love the sweeping, shimmering (and very long) intro. there's something majestic about this song.
The Cure - A Forest one of their brooding epic numbers. mmmm guitars.
The Smiths - The Boy With The Thorn In His Side lovely jangly guitars and a strange sort of triumph, despite the lyrics.
The Smiths - Shoplifters Of The World Unite not nearly an anthem, but catchy all the same.
Depeche Mode - One Caress not what i'd think of as typical depeche mode, but i love the music. haunting and oddly compelling and ah, strings.
Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart this song is addictive in its own laid-back, cynical way.
New Order - Bizarre Love Triangle i bet you already know this song, though you might not have realised it yet. every time i see you falling/i get down on my knees and pray <-- ring any bells?
Tears For Fears - Mad World before gary jules's mournful cover, this was what the song sounded like.
Tears For Fears - Head Over Heels that catchy little piano-synth tinkly bit! i love this just for that bit alone, okay. oh, and the chorusy lalalalala one, too.
*i am always horrified when gold90.5 plays boyband nineties music. how is nineties pop "oldies music"? has it been that long? ;_; |

| more kent! |
[Jul. 9th, 2007|09:13 pm] |
i realise belatedly that the previous kent sampler was something of a misrepresentation, since it doesn't include what i think of as hagnesta hill songs -- the ones with a stronger rock feel. although only one of these songs is from that album.
Kent - VinterNoll2 if you are taking only one song, let it be this one! this is one of their best songs, in my biased opinion. *_*
Kent - Kräm (Så Nära Får Ingen Gå) and this is one of their most awesomely fun songs. that catchy opening riff!
Kent - Dom Andra wins the prize for "best use of whistling in a kent song".
Kent - Revolt III [english] from the english hagnesta hill. yay, guitars! |

| kent! |
[Jul. 7th, 2007|10:46 pm] |
since i've already uploaded it: ten-song Kent sampler
contains: 10 minuter (för mig själv) 747 [english] Before it all ends [english] Berg & dalvana Chans Den döda vinkeln Klåparen Längesen vi sågs Mannen i den vita hatten (16 år senare) Socker
note: i legally own all their albums! except, uh, the english version of Isola. if you ever feel inclined, you can get them for a good price on skivhugget.se -- it's a flat fee for shipping, too. *_* i would advise against buying them in places such as HMV -- they're often twice the price there. |

| music and memery |
[Jul. 4th, 2007|12:03 am] |
from acanti and bangendedscoot. i don't usually do "put your music player on shuffle" memes because i am afraid my winamp will crash with a playlist several thousand songs long. still, i was planning to make a music post anyway.
but first, a song that i was going to post regardless: Captain Straydum - Lone Star an incredibly catchy and cheerful rock song, the opening theme from Tenpo Ibun Ayakashi Ayashi. it will get stuck in your head! but you will not mind! honest!
and now, the meme, with some questions omitted: ( + selected downloads ) |

[May. 5th, 2007|08:29 pm] |
because you voted for it: songs for fictional characters. i now realise that i shouldn't have put that down as a poll option; i am terrible at associating songs with anyone/anything, so i'm just force-fitting these songs to fandoms, essentially.
at least, um, all these bands start with 'the'..?
---
The Jesus and Mary Chain - Deep One Perfect Morning (.wma file) [monster, johan] charming, dreamy guitar work -- which lulls you into a false sense of security, so that you may not notice the somewhat unsettling undertone to the lyrics. this is nowhere as disturbed or disturbing as johan, but ah well. perhaps post-series johan?
The Wrens - This Boy Is Exhausted [BECK, ryuusuke?] i guess this song could just apply to the band as a whole. anyway, this is a pretty awesome, rock-ish song about how being in a band isn't always fun.
the pillows - Lonesome Diamond [melancholy of suzumiya haruhi, itsuki] this is for all those fics in which itsuki pines smilingly for kyon. ahahaha um. anyway it doesn't fit that well, even if one agrees that itsuki and the pillows both have a sort of easy if not truly cheerful charm to them. but i just wanted an excuse to post a pillows song.
The Verve - Lucky Man [weiss kreuz glühen, ryou] because there is something ironic about associating this song with ryou? or maybe not.
Oysterband - Granite Years [honey & clover, takemoto?] say that i was foolish/say that i was blind/never say that i got left behind! to me, at least, this is a song about one's Formative Years, about growing up and the rest of it. this doesn't quite fit with h&c, detail-wise, but the sentiment's there, i think. |
|
|
| a song that i don't mind getting stuck in my head. |
[Apr. 22nd, 2007|10:31 pm] |
proper musicpost to follow, er, eventually. but for now:
Suzumiya Haruhi (Hirano Aya) - First Good-bye
a cheery rock song that is, aptly enough, incredibly catchy. i say 'aptly enough' because of its place in the plot of the drama CD Sound Around, in which it is something like a, well, soundworm. as kyon says. give it a try! :D |
|

[Mar. 2nd, 2007|09:36 pm] |
i suspect that i koped a few of these off the f-list, but i've a bad memory for this sort of thing. ^_^;;
Yann Tiersen - Comptine d'un autre été: L'après midi starting with the obvious! not sure how many of you lack this mp3, but if you only download one track from this post, let it be this one. this was on both the Amélie and Goodbye Lenin soundtracks.
Penguin Cafe Orchestra - Telephone and Rubber Band do i need to give you a reason to download? just look at the band name, man.
Carl Orff - Gassenhauer incredibly endearing and cheerful. reminds me of angklungs.
Mogwai - Friend of the Night (live) elegant and restrained without being bland. the sort of thing you find on the soundtrack of european art films. possibly.
Explosions In The Sky - Look Into The Air a song for a quiet sunset? a comfortable song, anyway. and then it gets all lovely and growly with distortion, without losing the initial feel, and ah i am lousy at describing music, so just go ahead and download this.
Lawrence - Untitled (Track 1) a relatively quiet night in a cyberpunk dystopia. or... or something.
Corvus Corax - Suam Elle Ires
yay ravens their wikipedia entry says that they play medieval music. i wouldn't know, but this is a catchy and compelling tune all the same. it would work well for some sort of chaotic ancient city scene, i think.
Gankutsuou OST - Kaishou i have a great weakness for instrumental tracks where the same few notes are just repeated over and over. sorry. this does get all exciting and dramatic after a bit, though.
the pillows - beautiful morning with you [OST version] this is probably cheating, but: the pillows! the full song is 5:43 and has lyrics besides; this probably came from the FLCL OST. wish i had the full version, but this is lovely as it is. |
