clearing the final bit of this meme in a throwaway manner, because otherwise i might just not get around to doing it at all:

meme: If you had me under your command and could make me write anything, regardless of whether or not I know the fandom or if anybody even writes fic in that fandom and no matter how crack-addled it might be, what would you love to see me write?

I'm not actually going to write any of these (unless something strikes me), but I am curious.

specifics are entertaining!

i received a really awesome Bartimaeus trilogy* fic for [info]yuletide! it's first-person-POV and pitch-perfect -- Bartimaeus's narration was the main reason I liked the books, i won't lie -- and works so well and oh, Bartimaeus-Ptolemy interaction, be still my heart. :D :D :D

[info]feliciter also wrote me awesome epistolary Mushishi fic. *_*

*the Bartimaeus trilogy is a YA fantasy series; possibly the first i have read since secondary school, picked it up after prompting from a friend. it isn't high literature by any measure, but it does have one of the best/most entertaining narrators (who is also an unreliable one, yay) since Kyon. also, alternate history 'verse with magic in!

edit: now with aforementioned epistolary fic by [info]feliciter!

Kent concert, 7 Dec 2007 | Olympen, Lund [Dec. 23rd, 2007|02:47 pm]
[Tags|, ]

first, let me apologise for the lack of photos. my digital camera died and could not be revived on my second day in Copenhagen, so i had to fall back on my obsolete non-digital one. my cousin, who came along for the concert, did take a few photos, but i haven't got them from her yet. ^_^;;

still, some kind YouTube user has uploaded videos from the concert, so I've linked those. *_* there are probably more videos up on YouTube by now, too. i just wish there were an audio bootleg, because the videos simply don't capture the sound.

do not expect much coherence, let alone intelligence. much of this is fangirling. )

here are the setlists from this tour. looks like i was pretty lucky, getting to hear 10 minuter and Innan allting tar slut. :D :D :D

and the Kent-related purchases i made. )

from [info]erushi.

1. The person who tagged you is... )

17. Pass this quiz to 10 people that you wish to know how they feel about you - TRY NOT TO PEEP AT THE QUESTION BELOW BEFORE WRITING DOWN THE NAMES. because i don't want to tag 10 people, i am doing the 10-character-meme version! with inapplicable questions omitted.

1. Kyouya (Ouran, not Jiraishin)
2. Yamino
3. Lockon (Gundam 00 ahahaha)
4. Aya
5. Loki
6. Yuuki (Kimi to Boku)
7. Czeslaw (Baccano!)
8. Inspector Runge
9. Adashino
10. Itsuki

Who is no. 6 having a relationship with? )

---

also:
- the Revolutionary Party ( ...yes, they went there ) is tomorrow, but i am not going because 1) i have no money, 2) it's in a club sort of place rather than a proper bar, i believe, 3) i have no money, 4) i have no costume.
- it is day 2 of my third Assassins game and i am being fairly competent this time around! ^_^

because i feel bad for not maintaining some kind of internal coherence in this lj, and leaving past posts un-followed-up-on. ( that has been your Abuse of English for the day. )

signed up for yuletide after all, dundundunDUN. have no idea how i'm going to write it, seeing how i don't technically have a place to stay for the whole of december, but oh well. perhaps i'll regret it in the morning.

also, it was Tillbaka till samtiden day yesterday, so i'm taking requests for band AU scratchfic, if anyone would like one.

gip + new manga obsession [Sep. 6th, 2007|12:33 am]
[Tags|]

this is a serious shot in the dark, but: does anyone read the Kimi to Boku manga?

*switches to proper capitalisation*

Hotta Kiichi's Kimi to Boku sounds like some epic shoujo romance, but it's actually a slice-of-life story centred on four childhood friends who are now second-year high school students. There are Yuuta and Yuuki, deadpan twins who do not, in fact, live in their own world to the exclusion of others; Kaname, a rather short-tempered glasses-wearing student council sort; and Shun, a sweet and kind and fluffy-headed one. (He's the one in my icon.) There's also Masaki, a first-year girl with a crush on Shun -- not easy for her, since she also has an unwillingness to rely on/accept help from others. In volume two they're all joined by Chizuru, a transfer student who met Yuuki briefly when they were kids.

The series is amusing and rather plotless, but remains very human -- kind of like Cafe Kichijouji de meets Honey & Clover, except not as cracked-out as the former, and with neither the angst nor the focus on romance of the latter. Yet it remains terribly shoujo, I must admit: there are all these lovely little moments of emotion and friendship and unspoken things. *is weak against camaraderie and such*

Kimi to Boku was first published in Shounen Gangan, and continued in Gangan Powered; four volumes have been released so far. The manga artwork is soft and clean, with a light and airy feel. (Look at the pretty watercolours in the above-linked page!) You can read bits of the first volume on the official site.

In volume one there are a few chapters about this bratty little jerk of a kid (...sorry, my character-type biases are showing) and his kind, long-suffering friend, but they don't play a key role in following volumes, as far as I know. In volumes one and two there are also chapters of the four main kids in kindergarten, and they are the cutest things ever.

I don't think this series is licensed -- not in English, at least, though I'm sure there are Taiwanese or Hong Kong volumes somewhere out there. The Japanese volumes come with adorable inner parody covers, like the ones in the MaLoki Gangan volumes.

edit: Tong Li has the first two volumes out under the title 少年同盟.

(If any of my r/l friends want to give this a try, let me know! I'll lend you the manga! I want someone to fangirl with. ;_;)

1. Comment to this post with the name of a character that I have written in fic.
2. I will comment telling you the following:
a. What initially prompted me to like the character enough to write about him/her.
b. One of his/her best traits.
c. One of his/her worst traits.
d. How easy/difficult I find it to write the character.
e. The story/chapter/paragraph/phrase where I feel that I truly captured the character.
f. My plans (if any) to write the character in the near future.

if you give me an additional prompt (pairing, dynamic, random word, AU scenario, whatever), i'll also write a fic scrap. >_.

exercises in making stuff up [May. 5th, 2007|08:29 pm]
[Tags|, ]

because you voted for it: songs for fictional characters. i now realise that i shouldn't have put that down as a poll option; i am terrible at associating songs with anyone/anything, so i'm just force-fitting these songs to fandoms, essentially.

at least, um, all these bands start with 'the'..?

---

The Jesus and Mary Chain - Deep One Perfect Morning (.wma file) [monster, johan]
charming, dreamy guitar work -- which lulls you into a false sense of security, so that you may not notice the somewhat unsettling undertone to the lyrics. this is nowhere as disturbed or disturbing as johan, but ah well. perhaps post-series johan?

The Wrens - This Boy Is Exhausted [BECK, ryuusuke?]
i guess this song could just apply to the band as a whole. anyway, this is a pretty awesome, rock-ish song about how being in a band isn't always fun.

the pillows - Lonesome Diamond [melancholy of suzumiya haruhi, itsuki]
this is for all those fics in which itsuki pines smilingly for kyon. ahahaha um. anyway it doesn't fit that well, even if one agrees that itsuki and the pillows both have a sort of easy if not truly cheerful charm to them. but i just wanted an excuse to post a pillows song.

The Verve - Lucky Man [weiss kreuz glühen, ryou]
because there is something ironic about associating this song with ryou? or maybe not.

Oysterband - Granite Years [honey & clover, takemoto?]
say that i was foolish/say that i was blind/never say that i got left behind! to me, at least, this is a song about one's Formative Years, about growing up and the rest of it. this doesn't quite fit with h&c, detail-wise, but the sentiment's there, i think.

fandomspam, or and now for something-- no, sorry, just more of the usual [Mar. 25th, 2007|10:59 pm]
[Tags|]

so the question is: highly pretentious death note fic with chess terms ( note: i do not and have never played chess ) and mathematical metaphors, highly pretentious but also completely silly maloki fic in which everyone quotes my favourite swedish band, or ouran fic that revolves around a single and very bad not-even-a-real-pun? decisions, decisions.

***

another question, and one on which i'm actually looking for a response, if anyone wishes to make one: what's the etiquette for gift-fic posting? or: what's your personal approach? i generally don't post gift-fic, because:

1. i have the vague fear that i might inadvertently offend someone/break some unwritten fandom rules ohnoez by doing so.
2. my gift-fic tends to be somewhat tailored towards the person it is written for, so posting it can be a bit embarrassing.

i realise, however, that i may just be being silly. thus, for the purpose of becoming a somewhat less neurotic creature, i, um, am bothering my f-list? >_. or something. but as always, please do not feel obliged to respond. ^_^;;

meme of a sort: comment with a pairing or character - or several - and i will ramble on a bit while attempting to be relevant. doesn't have to be a pairing/character that i like; may be more interesting if it isn't, really.

this post brought to you by my efforts to write yami no matsuei fic that doesn't implode from angst&woe like a depressed soufflé. or do i mean meringue? the fluffy sort that you get on top of lemon meringue pie, not the hard kind.
