Costumes! :D by which I mean, Things-Characters-Wear.

this was surprisingly difficult! i think it is because i rarely pay attention to costumes or visualise characters when thinking about them. that, and i don't watch many shows with shiny costumes, i suppose. in no paticular order:

1. utgard loki from matantei loki ragnarok. black and silver is stylish, and i have a weakness for high collars. also it is relatively easy to draw.
2. ennis from baccano! -- it's just a pantsuit, but it's smart, and i like the fact that a female character has a costume that isn't all about fanservice.
3. aya from weiss kreuz. trenchcoat! buckles! shiny boots! yay.
4. haruka from tactics. well, not in those particular colours, but i couldn't find a better picture. i'm not even into this fandom, but i think there is something charming about ribbons around collars. :x and jackets of that sort. and waistcoats.
5. eheh, i'm lost now. captain jack sparrow, maybe. :D;;

i thought about the naruto characters, but no one came to mind. although the otogakure costumes do amuse me, because of the giant rope ribbons.

i am also exceedingly fond of gakurans. at one point, i wanted to own a set. i... still do, kind of, though i'd never have occasion to wear it.

Pairings! Because I'm really curious what character pairings you like, be they het or no (and because you only ever request for gen fics).

eheh, okay.

the only three pairings i actively ship, in any fandom:
1. loki/spica. it-it's cute okay. >_.
2. utgard-loki/spica. despite this pairing being full of angst&woe, i just want them to have happy fluffy picnics or something. ;_;
3. loki/utgard-loki. the tension! the fact that it is based neither on affection nor lust! (which raises the question: does this even count as a pairing in the conventional sense? i don't know, but i actively ship this.)

and now i am lost. i mean, there are many pairings i don't really mind, but none i particularly like. pairings generally bore me more than dynamics of other sorts. (if you had asked top five dynamics, i'd have had too many!) are crossovers allowed? if so:
4. yamino/kabuto, eheh.
5. grasping at straws here -- uh, i find shikamaru/temari kind of interesting? aiyah i don't know lah. i like narugami/yamino well enough, but somehow all the pairings were already maloki-related, so.

it would probably be more interesting if you asked the five pairings i disliked most, eheh, though the meme's format doesn't allow for that.

i always welcome questions about food. >D

sandwiches, no particular order:
1. smoked salmon and brie! in the first term of uni i used to order this quite a bit. sometimes i'd just order plain brie when i felt like saving money.
2. peanut butter and butter. sinful, but so good.
3. grilled cheese and ham. i'd like grilled cheese and bacon, but i don't think i've ever seen it anywhere.
4. ya kun kaya toast zomg.
5. tuna is an old favourite, bonus points for cucumber and lettuce.

japanese foods, no particular order:
1. omu rice. >_>;; it's comfort food, for me.
2. salmon tataki. *_______*
3. takoyaki! i will never get tired of it.
4. unagi! from time to time i get terrible unagi cravings.
5. a recently discovered one: ootoro sushi. ;_;

getting your answers to this meme is so addictive. i probably should reciprocate and put it up on my lj, just so that i won't keep feeling guilty over you getting the short end of the stick.

but yes. food! fear not, thou aren't the only latest ootoro sushi convert. ._. why not try making your own grilled cheese and bacon sandwich?

it would probably be more interesting if you asked the five pairings i disliked most, eheh, though the meme's format doesn't allow for that.

sorry i didn't respond to that last night. was too tired. but seeing as how entertaining the possibilities are, one more (and hopefully the last? :X) -

top five pairings you like to dislike. :D

haha, it is just as well that i enjoy discussing my preferences, then. :D;; no 'short end of the stick' at all, but feel free to put this meme up on your lj! *is nosy*

i have no cheese, no bacon, and no means of grilling anything, alas. maybe when i get back to singapore.

i don't enjoy disliking pairings, but i'll take that question in the spirit intended -- five pairings that i dislike the most (as opposed to merely finding them boring/unconvincing). these are all popular pairings, since it seems silly to dislike pairings that almost no one promotes anyway.

1. loki/mayura. just... no. i'm actually neutral-to-fond of mayura, especially in the manga, but i really dislike this pairing because of the huge asymmetries and general unlikeliness.
2. crowley/aziraphale. *ducks* i assume that most of the fic is based on a soft-and-fluffy characterisation of aziraphale (i could be wrong, mind), and in any case i just much prefer the non-pairing dynamic.
3. any reciprocated haruhi/someone pairing in ouran, because i think of haruhi as asexual and aromantic -- that aspect of her personality was one of the things i liked about ouran in the first place.
4. non-crack ginko/adashino. i'm not too fond of ginko/tanyuu, either, but there's far less basis for ginko/adashino, so.
5. any samurai champloo pairing of the main three that ends up excluding the other. platonic OT3 4evarrrr, etc.

i avoid fic of 1 and 2; i am willing to read fic of 3, 4 and 5, but only if i think it is likely to be done very well.

strangely enough, wrt #2 -- i'm not fond of crowleg x aziraphale too. i prefer it the other way. and yes, there is a difference. i do actually don't like fluffy!aziraphale, truth be told. he always struck me as something of a bastard-in-denial in the books, and i like it best when the characterisation is true.

ah, i see! that's surprising, in a good way. i don't like the pairing regardless of direction, but more power to you, as it were. i'm not sure about bastard-in-denial, but he did seem to lack empathy on the personal (vs professional) level, seeming somehow more detached from the human world than crowley was. of course, i haven't read the book in ages, so i could be wrong. :D;;

if i could, i'd get paid for lazing around doing nothing! the following are not very realistic, and in no particular order.

1. some sort of non-realistic illustrator -- for stationery, perhaps, or primary school textbooks. :D;;
2. journalism, actually. even though i don't think i'm a very good journalist.
3. i used to always say travel writer, but i'm not sure i'd like it as a job, actually. still, something involving t
4. librarian. except i don't really know what librarians do.

after working in a library I have discovered that there are a million different types of librarians and some of them need to be experts in random things like Sanskrit in order to catalogue Sanskrit documents properly and others just kinda scan books all day. but I love libraries and the librarians I've met all seem to have amazing life stories.

working at la biblioteca also upped my nerdfactor by several points as well =D.

:D! i didn't know if anime movies counted, so these are all anime series.

1. Mushishi, definitely. it is beautiful and calming and the music and and and. <3333
2. Baccano! is a fun ride, and the sort of anime i can rec happily to people.
3. Honey & Clover -- it is terribly shoujo, but it is lovely despite that. all the characters are likeable (eventually), and it is at once heartwarming and heartbreaking.
4. Samurai Champloo -- not all the one-shot episodes worked, but mugen-fuu-jin are my platonic OT3, and the show just had so much style. and humour.
5. ...hm. maybe Yakitate!! Japan, eheh, just because it (1) was always entertaining, (2) featured food.

my top five list of manga would have been quite different, though.

Lol! Hmm can I also ask you to name your top 5 manga series?

I tried to check out Honey and Clover, but somehow it didn't interest me much :s I guess it's also cuz I watched the live action--not very interesting. The movie had Sakurai Sho in it (from Arashi) but I didn't get past the halfway mark! Ah, should watch it after exams, perhaps.

I love Samurai Champloo too! :) and the three of them are always so entertaining! Mugen's my fave though, heh.

why lol? :p

manga:
1. Kimi to Boku (see icon)!! it is fluffy and heartwarming and hilarious. <33333
2. Mushishi, again.
3. Cafe Kichijouji de, ahahaha.
4. Matantei Loki Ragnarok -- not a particularly good manga, objectively speaking, but dear to my heart, so to speak.
5. it's a toss-up between Monster and 20th Century Boys -- i haven't read the ending of the latter yet, though. both of them are by urasawa naoki, and have fiendishly long plots, solid characters, and a strangely epic feel (but not in the high fantasy sense).

eheh, i watched three episodes of h&c and gave up. then, two years later, i gave it another try and ended up liking it quite a lot. i don't know how the dorama and the movie compared to the anime, though. if nothing else, spitz and suga shikao have insert songs!

hee, mugen? i thought you'd be more the jin type.

Hm, I haven't read most of the above. All of them actually. Except I've watched Monster recently.

Really! What's a Jin-type anyway :p Mugen's wild and cocky and crazy, makes for a very interesting character. OH and I'll never forget that one time he fished out acorns instead of coins, when Fuu said they should pool their money :D

i only have three ships and they're all in maloki fandom, so. :p

! not even cafe kichijouji de? i definitely recommend it: it is fun and fluffy and absolutely hilarious. elsie and feiya can second me on this! there are chinese versions out there. kimi to boku is also amazing, although no one else seems to have read it -- tong li has published all four existing volumes already.

did you like Monster? it is a bit more trying in anime form because one can't just skim the boring side-story episodes, i think. >_> but the art direction is pretty good i think, and some parts of the soundtrack, too. the OP is one of my favourites.

like the silent-stoic sort. except that jin can be quite dorky/silly too, which i like. :D and haha yeah mugen's definitely interesting.

yay! yes, the last few episodes in particular were so gripping. *_* 20th Century Boys only exists as a manga, and it is 20+ volumes long. i have scanlations and could burn most of it for you when i get back to singapore, if you'd like? it is a bit more convoluted than Monster, admittedly.

i own the first two volumes of cafe kichijouji de in chinese, so i can lend them to you! i only have the japanese volumes of kimi to boku, though. my exams are in mid/late june, eheh. will be back in singapore at the start of july. quite late compared to london unis, i know...

items on these lists are in no particular order.

in the sense of 'places i have been to':
1. ikebukuro. (how's that for specific?) anime/manga fan heaven, man.
2. paris! paaaaris.
3. possibly central london, actually, for all that i wouldn't be able to live there.
4. stockholm. ♥ especially the old town.
5. central kyoto. kamogawa~

in the sense of 'places i'd like to visit but haven't yet':
1. iceland, and not just reykjavík.
2. rome, particularly the historic city centre.
3. moscow.
4. osaka, for the food. >_>

hm. it's not a particularly pretty or even impressive river, to be fair, but there's a laid-back, old-fashioned charm about it, especially since there are old buildings on stilts lining the banks -- restaurants, according to wikipedia. the wheeling kites (raptors, not paper-and-bamboo creations) help as well, and the place has some sort of resonance, for me. so not a top travel destination in the sense that i'd rec it, more a personal favourite.

i haven't travelled much in asia -- just to beijing, bintan, and a few places in malaysia -- and my trips to japan and europe overshadowed those, in any case.

haha, fine. :p in no particular order--

dishes:
1. french onion soup!!! ahhhhhh ♥
2. hainanese chicken rice. the rice is the important part. the chili should be tasty but not too strong. *is weak*
3. tiramisu. i think. it is hard to choose, when it comes to desserts.
4. fluffy fluffy omelettes! with cheese and ham and mushrooms.
5. fried rice. it was always a sort of treat to have it at home, which is probably kind of ironic.

individual items:
1. smoked salmon. no one is surprised.
2. ice-cream!
3. sausages of many sorts: frankfurters, cumberland, taiwanese, etc. etc. hot dogs are nice, especially with ketchup and sweet scandinavian mustard.
4. steak. :D
5. in the past i would probably have said chocolate, but i am finding it strangely easy to survive without it. still, chocolate probably deserves to rank up here as well.

despite what these lists suggest, i am fond of fruits and vegetables. they just pale in comparison to other things. and wow, a classy smoked salmon open sandwich, eh? sasuga kevin-kun.

Chicken rice, onion soup and omelettes! I approve. =D
And by that statement about fried rice, I suppose you never really had it at home, then?

And somehow, I never imagined your top five food items list would comprise of so much in the way of protein, haha. And ice cream as well! You surprise me in a good way, Jan. ^^;;

And it wasn't an open sandwich - just everything slapped together between two slices of bread. I still have like three of those sitting in the fridge from the leftover salmon, and they'll probably be split for breakfast tomorrow, although I find the notion of having smoked salmon as breakfast food weird. Okay, you do have smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels, but.... those are different!

no, i had it at home quite often! ironic because fried rice seems more like a method of getting rid of leftover rice, not the sort of thing one cooks for the sake of it.

haha, what, did you think i was a fruits and vegetable person? i adore ice-cream; i eat it on a regular basis, and have many many much-loved flavours. mmmm. why is this suprising? i am genuinely curious.

Ahh, I see what you mean. In my house, it's quite the opposite, hahaha. Probably because we never have any leftover rice left around, and hence when we want to make it the white rice has to be cooked the night before.

Well, not so much fruits and vegetables, but... more fish, or something? I mean, I don't quite imagine you as a carnivore, but. ^^;;

oh, it was the same in my house, mostly. i was referring more to fried rice being for leftovers in general, rather than specifically in reference to the way things are at home.

heh, really? i have been a self-confessed carnivore since i was a little kid -- i have always loved steak. <3 i find most fish rather boring, actually, and i dislike seafood. :p

cook something exciting? i hear lightly-seared smoked salmon is interesting -- a bit like salmon tataki in a sense, i suppose.
