happiness is
i haven't been very good at being... well, at being, lately. probably won't post again until april (and won't be commenting from friday onwards), so: have a lovely spring, for those of you who do have spring, and all the best to the now-j3s who are waiting on results of various kinds, and all the best to everyone, really, whatever you are doing now and wherever you are or are going.

on that cheerful (?) note, a meme from [info]wao, because i like this sort of thing.

Comment and I'll give you a letter (if you want); then you have to list 10 things you love that begin with that letter. Afterwards, post this in your journal (if you want) and give out some letters of your own.

1. Joseph Brodsky's poetry -- Brodsky is my Kent of poetry, by which i mean that he is the one poet whose work resonates with me, even if i cannot provide an objective defence or explanation of this. i posted some of his poems in fic posts, last year; here is a site with more of his work.

2. June -- a month i associate with holidays, and sunshine, and relaxation. especially holidays, eheh. the Junes of 2005 and 2006 were particularly important to me, for reasons not limited to the overseas trips embarked upon.

3. Jocke & co. -- which is a cheater's way of saying Kent. sorry, it had to be done.

4. JC nostalgia -- nostalgia of all sorts, really. but yes: while the JC years were not all sunshine and roses, they were good years, and i have many important memories from them.

5. the benign variant of jamais vu -- old things seeming new and fresh and bright and full of promise, all over again. realising, perhaps on a particularly sunny blue-skied day, where i am now, literally and metaphorically. rediscovering old songs, or books, or things which made me smile once and perhaps still do. (jamais vu in the usual sense, however, scares me. i like retaining my memories, thankyou.)

6. the Jurassic Park themes -- i'm fonder of soundtracks that rely more on piano and less on sweeping orchestral pieces (yann tiersen's work, for a start) but the Jurassic Park themes will always have a place in my heart. i adored the book and movie, i adored the soundtrack, and the opening theme also reminds me of RGS, because the school band used to play it when welcoming guests of honour. *laughs*

7. jangly guitars -- so lovely and upbeat. there's that link with The Smiths, too, since the phrase tends to crop up in descriptions of their sound.

8. Japanese food -- ahahaha, i could go on forever. sushi! wagashi! teriyaki anything! katsu curry! pocky! omu rice! and so on, and so on.

9. particularly striking juxtapositions -- especially if irony is involved somewhere.

10. January and other beginnings -- i am ambivalent about change, but there is something hopeful about beginnings, all the same.

Heheh, the Jurassic Park theme :D They really did overuse it, I don't remember them thinking of a single other song to play (although it was nice anyway).
I like June too because it's holidays and has many birthdays including mine. :D Can't say I have JC nostalgia, but Sec 3-4 nostalgia most certainly...

Hope you're keeping fine and stuff (Actually I haven't a clue what you do in school, but it must be highly Exciting, Demanding and Interesting), will miss your comments but I'll live. :v See you in April

i always thought it was hilarious, as if we thought of our guests as dinosaurs or something.

thanks, and i hope school for you is going well too! my school life is a lot less exciting than one might expect, i think. >_>;; i have been pretty lax at commenting recently, but i shall buck up once april arrives! :D;;

(btw, i never got around to thanking you for Deir Paidir, so: thanks! i recognise the tune from one of those time-lapse art things you made. :D)

10)http://download.yousendit.com/FA272452452A1538 Falling Slowly (Oscar-winning song from Once), performed perfectly by the original writer/singer/actors Glen Hansard and Irketa Marglova whose relationship developed during the filming, and whose chemistry was palpable during the recent awards ceremony.

9)Films: specifically The Diving Bell And The Butterfly (Le Scaphandre et Le Papillon), the beautifully realized (in all senses, and all senses of the word) cinematic interpretation of Jean-Dominique Bauby's book written after he suffered a stroke that left his cerebral function intact and able to move only his left eyelid.

8)Fanworks/Fandom: The Great Revival, aka Woxinchangdan, which you may have seen too much a lot of in recent LJ entries and my f-list.

7)Fiction, browsing/buying/reading of: which I can finally do without guilt with time to spare since exit exams are over :D

6)Filthy lucre - ahh, end-year bonuses ^_^ But just getting paid, and paid for doing work that however repetitive and thankless it may sometimes be, is on the whole rewarding.

5)Finer things of life - one of the uses of 6)

4)Foreign parts - travelling, frequently sometimes without leaving the computer, sofa or bed. Or whenever I hear or use, for instance, the Malay word "kepala" which reminds me that it comes from Arabic by way of the Greek "cephalos".

3)Food - all kinds, but especially 5), and in 4) XD

2)Felines. Need I say more? ^_^

1)Family and Friends, because.
