is anyone else interested in erasureathon? i contemplated singing up for the previous round, but put it off because it would kind of involve indexing all my fic. i'm still keen on giving it a go, though, and i figure that if people from the flist are playing, there's a higher chance of getting something in a fandom i actually know. :D;; |

The first ten people to comment in this post get to request that I write a drabble of any pairing/character (within reason, I obviously have to know the fandom/characters). In return, they have to post this in their journal, regardless of their ability level. 1. erushi, Cafe Kichijouji de, Sukekiyo 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. |

yuletide delivers! |
[Dec. 27th, 2009|12:32 pm] |
i was a pinch-hit this year, but received two lovely (and quite different) fics:
Photo Real, which is a gorgeous Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex fic. it's perhaps a little closer in tone to the movies than to the anime, the interaction between batou and the major a little less easy-going, but i love that. what actually goes on in the fic could be summed up very simply, but the execution is precise and effective.
Snowmen with Scarves, which is Kimi to Boku fic! ahhhh ♥ it's sweet, silly, and very true-to-canon; i found myself picturing corresponding manga panels as i read it. being the yuuki&yuuta fan i am, i especially enjoyed their appearances in this fic - but all the others are perfectly in character, too. |

to my yuletide writer(s) |
[Dec. 23rd, 2009|11:55 pm] |
dear person(s) who has/have written a yuletide story for me* --
i may not have internet access on Christmas Day and the early part of Boxing Day, but i'll definitely read my presents by the end of Boxing Day! thank you so, so much in advance. i am incredibly excited and grateful, especially given the short time you had to write them (assuming you are not my original assigned writer -- and if you are, then my thanks all the same).
*since i'd noticed that my request had gone out to the pinch hits list, i just checked to see if i'd received a fic yet -- and i saw that i'd received two! that makes me ridiculously happy, you have no idea. ♥ i assume, dear yuletide writer(s), that at least one of you is my pinch-hitter -- but there might be two of you, or just one, and if there are two then the other person could be a kind passer-by or an flister or my assigned writer, so, um. in short: i do not know who you are, but many many thanks. |

yuletide letter! |
[Nov. 12th, 2009|03:17 pm] |
Dear yuletide author,
Two main things:
1. By offering to write for any of these fandoms, you are already awesome. Thanks so much for doing so! Fic for any of these fandoms would make me really happy, so no pressure.
2. Remember that you are only constrained by the fandom and characters in my request. You can ignore my request details; you can certainly ignore this letter.
( That having been said: )
Again, many thanks, and I hope my requests haven't caused you too much grief! |

so, that sketching-on-travels thing... didn't really work out, because i am made of fail.
- at 5.25pm on sept 24, i was unaware that someone had requested said date and time.
- at 3 pm on sept 27, i was in the Rudas Baths in Budapest and didn't have drawing materials on me. here is a poor sketch, from memory: ( sob. )
- during evening on sept 30, we were walking around the Old Town of Bratislava in search of food and i didn't want to stop my travel companion so i could sketch. sorry. ;_;
- lunch on oct 2 didn't really happen, because i was on a train and did not have much to eat. here is the only decent thing i managed to scribble in the hours around noon: ( not very much. )
- for a large part of the time between 6 pm and 11 pm on oct 3, i was... in the hostel room, being lazy and loserly. this is the only sketch i really managed to do: ( and it is boring. )
in conclusion, i should not make offers i cannot follow up on. in recompense for all that fail, have ( a recent photo of the sky. ) |

flying to the UK tonight, then off to eastern europe as per previous post. may be checking email sporadically, but am otherwise incommunicado until early october.
am also idly contemplating not signing up for yuletide this year, but we'll see... |

| audience participation required |
[Sep. 16th, 2009|07:40 pm] |
i will be travelling in four cities in eastern europe from sept 23rd to oct 6th. if you'd like, give me a date and time of day within that period, and - other activities permitting - i'll sketch part of my surroundings at that time.
also, i believe there is a Write a love poem in fifteen words or fewer meme going around lj. if you comment with pairing(s) and flippancy rating (1 to 5, 1 for not very) i shall write a poem to said specifications! |

| [meme] pictures of you |
[Aug. 4th, 2009|10:26 pm] |
meme:
- Post ten of any pictures currently on your hard drive that you think are self-expressive. - NO CAPTIONS!!! It must be like we're speaking with images and we have to interpret your visual language just like we have to interpret your words. - They must ALREADY be on your hard drive - no googling or flickr! They have to have been saved to your folders sometime in the past. They must be something you've saved there because it resonated with you for some reason. - You do NOT have to answer any questions about any of your pictures if you don't want to. You can make them as mysterious as you like. Or you can explain them away as much as you like.
this was difficult because of the implications in the third point: i had to avoid using photographs i'd taken/things i drew/created. and i don't save many pictures to my hard drive anyway. i've also avoided posting japanese fanart. for the two pieces of other-people art i used, i credited one but wasn't sure about the other -- let me know if you have any opinion on it, [insert name here].

| some old music instead |
[Jul. 21st, 2009|10:16 pm] |
actually trying to maintain something over time got too tiring, so here's a random post of music, instead of 'new music this month'.
The Triffids - Stolen Property a song that probably shouldn't work but does, at least for me. soaring yet cynical, the right mix of angst and bombast and some really great use of bass and drums. (except maybe for the weird narrator-y bit near the end.) if i'd heard this song during my teenage music-is-SRS-BSNS years, i would have put it on repeat for days and written angsty yet hopeful songfic. probably.
BONNIE PINK - Get On The Bus a laid-back anthem, if that isn't a contradiction in terms: realistic but hopeful. grey-day music, for me -- the sort of thing that makes you think, yeah, you'll get through this, it'll be fine. and some brilliant use of internal rhyme, too ♥
Radiohead - Videotape most of you probably have heard this by now, but if you haven't: radiohead being scratchy and low-fi and depressing. this song feels too sincere for radiohead, if that makes sense -- maybe i mean 'maudlin' -- but the beautiful, gorgeous use of drumming would make it worth listening to even if the lyrics were the most insipid crap ever. |

| starting up again |
[Jul. 3rd, 2009|06:50 pm] |
attempt at a meme: Name a fandom, and I'll state at least three of my unpopular opinions related to that fandom. though possibly i am not a great judge of opinion popularity. feel free to name fandoms i'm not actively in, i guess. |
